On March 25, 2025, the Center for Applied Information Technology (NEU) and CFVG co-hosted a pivotal workshop titled "Regulations on AI Use in Teaching and Research," marking its "Replication Day" under the Digitalising Vietnamese Education (DIVE) project.
The event, held at the A1 Building, brought together academic leaders and experts to address the "explosive diffusion" of AI tools like ChatGPT and their impact on academic integrity.
The seminar opened with a presentation from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fabien de Geuser (CFVG), who highlighted a looming "crisis" in higher education, noting that 96% of faculty believe students have cheated using AI in the past year. Discussions led by Dr. Dao Gia Phuc (UEL) and Dr. Le Viet Thuy (NEU) emphasized that traditional assessments, such as take-home essays and master’s theses, are no longer viable as AI-generated content often goes undetected.
To navigate this shift, the seminar introduced 10 key recommendations for NEU, including:
- "Human-in-the-loop" Principle: Ensuring AI remains a supportive tool, not a replacement for human judgment.
- Mandatory Disclosure: Requiring students and researchers to declare all AI assistance to maintain transparency.
- Assessment Redesign: Shifting toward oral exams, viva voce defenses, and in-class supervised writing to verify student competence.
The event concluded with a call for "AI Literacy" training for both staff and students, aiming to move beyond coercive detection and toward a responsible, ethical integration of technology in the digital economy.
